New Club Represents Students with Red Hair

From Prince Harry to that red head on the block, the “ginger” movement has spread to our campus with a new club, “Ginger Kids.”
It doesn’t exactly fit an ethnic club or similar interest criteria. In fact, the common factor most members share isn’t even necessary to be part of the group. The club is called Ginger Kids, and it’s composed of redheads, or “gingers”, as they’re called, and “ginger supporters,” or people without red hair that still want to be a part of the club.
The club is the brainchild of juniors Blaire Bender, Michael Albert and Lauren LaBar, all of which are “gingers.” It was formed to unite the redheads on campus and to get a group picture of redheads in the yearbook. As Bender put it, “It has actually brought all the redheads together on campus. Also, it is a really fun group to see walking around, all redheads.”
This school year is the first time Ginger Kids or a similar group has existed on campus, and so far the group has about twenty people, redheads and non-redheads alike.
Members of the club are excited to see the group of redheads in the yearbook. “We want to be in the yearbook because we’re frickin’ awesome.” Michael Albert, junior, said. “We’re a group of gingers and ginger lovers. It’s a great way to get in the yearbook.”

There isn’t really a main reason that the club chose the name Ginger Kids. “It just seemed like a funny name and we decided it would fit best.” Bender said.
“What better name is there for a group of gingers and ginger lovers?” Albert said. “Props to Blaire.”
So far, Bender is pleased with how the club is going. “It’s really fun joking around with one another.” she said. “Also, since redheads seem to be rare, it’s awesome to see us all come together.”
Ginger Kids meets during lunch once every other month in the ASB room.
