Metalcore headliner of “The Napalm & Noise Tour”, All That Remains annihilated their audience at Soma this past week, hammering out tunes from their commercially successful album “Overcome”.
The band opened their set with “Before the Damn” to anxious screaming fans. As the drums began to beat, the crowd pushed toward the stage. With a short pause, the venue fell silent, and the lead guitar whipped in as the animal-like gathering jumped, moshed, and screamed the timeless metal lyrics: “We will set in motion/Changing of the times/We have not forgotten/We control our lives.”
All That Remains continued their endless barrage against the untamed crowd with their mosher classics “Indictment” and “Chiron”. Fans of all ages joined in the fray of violence, as the band called for “the wall of death” (the crowd divides in half, left and right sides, and run to mosh at each other). The moshing was so intense that some left with broken ankles and at least two carted out by paramedics.
After some intense songs, the mood began to settle as the balladly “Forever in Your Hands” was played for the couples in the crowd.
“This one is for all guys who have their girl with’em tonight,” lead singer Philip Labonte said.
Afterward, the crowd protested for the song they had been waiting for all night: “Six six six six six!” All That Remains answered with the very familiar scream and vocals “I wish I was free of this/I see her in my dreams/Wish that she wasn’t there/But she still haunts me as I” of their famous tune “Six”. The audience was as one when the song reached the chorus “Oh how this sickens me/This wretched fools affair/I can’t erase this from me” and climaxed with a heavy to mellow guitar solo.
The set finally ended with All That Remains’ biggest hit yet “Two Weeks” as the crowd roared one last time.
All That Remains was supported by Story of the Year who pumped the venue with their cult anthem “Until the Day I Die”. It was seemingly the only time of the show the moshing subsided and the entire crowd chanted along to the lyrics: “Until the day I die/I’ll spill my heart for you”.
